Zimbabwe: European Union Extends Targeted Sanctions on Country

The European Union has extended targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe for a further period of 12 months, but has removed six individuals and nine companies from the list. The European Union said on Tuesday it chose to extend the measures because of ‘lack of progress in the implementation of the Global Political Agreement signed in September 2008′.

Zimbabwe: EU to Endorse Decision to Extend Targeted Sanctions by Another Year

The European Union’s council of ministers will meet in Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday to endorse a proposal to extend the sanctions against Zimbabwe until 20 February 2011.

Danish specialist troops seized a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden Friday, soon after Somali pirates had boarded it and tried to hijack it, the European Union’s naval force for the area said.

Zimbabwe: EU - Keep Sanctions on Mugabe’s Inner Circle

The European Union should maintain its travel restrictions and asset freezes on President Robert Mugabe and his inner circle until Zimbabwe carries out the concrete human rights reforms set out in the 2008 Global Political Agreement, Human Rights Watch said today. The EU is currently reviewing its sanctions policy toward Zimbabwe.
